The three family routes
| Route | Who it's for | Money rule (usual) |
|---|---|---|
| Thai child visa | Parent of a child with Thai nationality, who supports the child in Thailand | 400,000 THB in a Thai bank, or 40,000 THB a month |
| Dependant visa | Spouse or child under 20 of someone working here on a work permit, or of an LTR or DTV holder | Usually covered by the main holder's status; proof of the relationship is the key document |
| Guardian visa | Parent of a child studying at a Thai school on an education visa | Commonly 500,000 THB per child in a Thai bank |
Documents you'll be asked for
- Birth certificate showing the parent, translated and legalised if issued abroad.
- Marriage certificate for spouses, registered in Thailand if possible.
- The main holder's passport, visa and work permit or school letter.
- Bank letter and book for the money rule, and photos of family life.
Renewal and travel
Family extensions run for one year and are renewed at your local immigration office, like the marriage visa. The dependant's extension usually can't run longer than the main holder's. Get a re-entry permit before any trip abroad.
